Esterno di Villa e Parco Grock a Imperia

Park and Villa Grock

Villa Grock, Magic Takes Shape

Built on a hill overlooking the city of Imperia, the Park and Villa Grock were imagined and carried out by Swiss circus performer Charles Adrien Wettach, known to the public as Grock.

Consecrated “King of Clowns” at the Paris Olympia in 1919, a true international star of his time, Grock was so struck by the beauty of the Ligurian Riviera that he decided to build his private residence here in the late 1920s.

Combining different styles, Villa Grock wonderfully reflects the eclectic character of its creator. The architecture and taste are reminiscent of Art Deco, the Italian Art Nouveau and the circus world, so much so that the Villa, with its array of lampposts, columns, drops and balustrades, earned the name of “Stone Circus”.
Since 2013, Villa Grock has housed the Clown Museum.

Grock Park, the Fairytale Nature of a Surreal World

The Villa Grock Park is a unique ensemble of terraces, steps, columns and stone walkways. As for the residence, it was Grock himself who imagined the enchanted world of the park.
Among the cedars of Lebanon, fir trees, palm trees and olive trees typical of the Riviera, spectacular scenic elements stand out. In particular, in addition to the decorations and fountains, there is a small lake inside of which a small island with a temple has been built, that can be accessed via an oriental-style bridge.

Finally, Grock had a complex closed-circuit hydraulic system installed in the park, capable of recreating astonishing water features.

Please note that, thanks to the Imperia museum network, it is possible to purchase entrance tickets with different access options for the Naval Museum, Planetarium, Villa Faravelli and Villa Grock.
